Uncovering Ancient Umm Al-Jimāl

For over five decades hundreds of people have committed their time and expertise to the Umm Al-Jimāl Archaeological Project. Scholars, students, officials, institutions, and other colleagues have all been crucial to its ongoing vitality. Most importantly, over 100 experts and laborers from modern Umm Al-Jimāl have contributed their skills in excavation, project management, and conservation. The project gratefully recognizes their two generations of diligence.

The UJAP is thankful for our partnership with Jordan’s Department of Antiquities, which oversees all research and excavations. Fieldwork at the site is conducted to the highest standard with the aim of helping to understand the outstanding ruins, but never seeks to alter the character of the site or destabilize the architecture. All UJAP work aims to enhance knowledge and further site conservation and preservation aims.
